“Am I Eligible?” Immigration-Related CARES Act Eligibility Requirements

At the Children’s Defense Fund-Texas, we want to make sure that immigrant communities are receiving the information they need during this unprecedented pandemic.

On March 27th, 2020, the U.S House of Representatives passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act is a $2 trillion stimulus bill that includes a Recovery Rebate plan to provide economic support during the COVID-19 crisis. However, there are some immigration-related eligibility requirements that immigrant communities should be aware of.

The Center for Popular Democracy recently published an “Am I Eligible?” document (in English and Spanish) detailing the qualifying factors for direct cash payments and unemployment insurance under the CARES Act. The resource describes what the direct cash payments and unemployment insurance benefits are, the eligibility requirements, and more.

If you or a loved one are wondering if you are eligible for benefits under the new federal laws, visit the links below to read the Center for Popular Democracy’s resource for immigration-related eligibility requirements for benefits under the CARES Act.
